Welcome to the "London Born" website

Sidney Day was born and raised in "a street where there was so much villainry going on, so many drunks and gambling and Gawd know what, that at night the police would only come down in twos. Everyone knew it as Tiger Bay."

In a breathtakingly original memoir, Sidney Day remembers everyday life in a London now long gone.

Sidney Day was born in north London in 1912 and died in 2011, age 98. He could not read and write but his granddaughter, Helen Day, captivated by the stories he told, decided to transcribe his words and shape them into this memoir. The book was published in 2006, when Sid was 94, and received many good reviews. To his amazement, Sid was featured in The Times and interviewed about his life on radio and TV.
